Kil-Kare Feature Wins Go To Stacy, Dunlevy, Lewis, Sagers, Williams
Xenia, OH. (6/24) - The second trailer race of destruction brought a
large crowd to Kil-Kare Speedway Friday night to witness the NASCAR
Whelen All-American Series, IKO Mini Cups, and of course the trailer
events. When the checkers flew on the night Dick Dunlevy scored his
third modified win, Ron Lewis his third sport stock main, Ron Sagers his
seventh compact win, and Cole Williams his fourth IKO mini cup feature
Thirteen NASCAR Whelen All-American Series late models took to the
track for their thirty lap feature event with Jeff Marsh and Virgil
Powell on the front row. Powell took the lead as fourth place starter
Tim Rauch moved into second and went after Powell as Mike Stacy and Don
Mahaffey followed. It was a four car battle for the lead when contact
was made on the backstretch with Powell hitting the backstretch wall and
Rauch sent to the tail. For the restart on lap five it put the two
Oakley Blacktop cars of Stacy and Mahaffey in he front followed by Scott
Drake, Sloan Henderson, and Marsh.
The two teammates battled for the lead when it appeared Drake taped
Mahaffey in the rear going into turn one with eight cars involved but no
damage to any of them except Mahaffey who departed to the pits. When
action resumed on lap seven one feature winner Stacy held the front spot
followed by Drake, Justin Alsip, Marsh and making his first visit to
Kil-Kare was Terry Senneker in fifth. Senneker was catching on to the
tricky track as he stalked Alsip who was trying to figure out a way
around Henderson.
Stacy enjoyed a big lead on the field as the laps were winding down
with nearly a half lap lead on the field. Stacy in his Oakley Blacktop
special took the win with Drake second. Alsip tried to pass Henderson
for third but she shook him off to claim the third spot with Alsip
fourth and Sam Heckman fifth.
Don Mahaffey and teammate Mike Stacy started side by side in the first
heat race for the late models with Stacy taking the lead as Justin Alsip
was riding on the outside but here came Mahaffey to steal the lead on
the third lap. Stacy began to fade and Bobby Justus dropped off the
pace. Mahaffey held the lead as Sam Heckman closed in on him to place
second with Terry Senneker third and Stacy fourth.
Jeff Marsh and Virgil Powell made up the front row of the second heat
with Marsh taking the lead but Tim Rauch was hungry as he slid inside of
Marsh for the lead with Powell running second and Sloan Henderson third.
For Rauch it was his first heat win of the year as he led Powell,
Henderson, and Scott Drake home.
The Muffler Brothers of Xenia modifieds took to the track for their
thirty lap feature with Mike South Jr. and Joe Jennings setting the pace
as South got the jump with Jason Mahaffey taking third with Mike Carroll
into third with heat winner Ralph Harrod in fourth only to be tapped by
Jerry Stapleton with Harrod spinning and Stapleton to the rear. South
continued to set the pace on the restart with Jack Jones running fourth
and tenth place starter advancing to firth and then went to the outside
of Jones for fourth and then reeled in Carroll as Mahaffey was
challenging South with Mahaffey going inside for the lead followed by
Dunlevy. Dunlevy was bout to pass Mahaffey when the caution came out on
lap twelve when Brian Reeser hit the outside wall to put him in the
pits.
On the restart Mahaffey had two former track champs right behind him
as Dunlevy again went to the outside to challenge Mahaffey as Mahaffey
kept shaking him off but unfortunately Mahaffey broke out which sent him
to the tail and Dunlevy into the lead with Carroll into second followed
by Derek Barnette, South, and Jones. Stapleton was really on the move
after being sent to the tail earlier as he moved into third on lap
sixteen and then went after second pace Carroll. Dunlevy had a good lead
built up as he was after his third win in the Dependable Roofing
machine. Carroll was hanging on to second as Stapleton and Barnette was
right on his rear bumper. When the checker waved it was Dunlevy followed
by Carroll, Stapleton, Barnette who slid across the line and fifth was
Jones.
When the first heat of Muffler Brothers of Xenia modifieds hit the
track it was s grant Gamble and Ralph Harrod leading the field to the
green it was fireman Harrod in front with Jerry Stapleton into second
with Dick Dunlevy riding third right behind Stapleton. Dunlevy tried to
get around Stapleton as Derek Barnette joined the duo. Harrod, with a
good lead claimed the win with Stapleton second while Barnett nipped
Dunlevy for third with Dunlevy fourth.
Mike South Jr., and Joe Jennings set the pace in the second heat .
South took the lead as Brian Reeser dropped Jennings back to third but
here came Mike Carroll on the outside from the back of the field to take
second and then set sail for South. Carroll tried too hard coming out of
turn four and glanced off the wall damaging the right front putting him
out.. South held on to the lead to claim his first heat win of the year.
Second was Brian Reeser, Jason Mahaffey with Joe Jennings fourth.
The twenty lap sport stock feature had Will Gregory and Jeff Marsh
facing starter Mike Stapleton's green flag as Marsh had the lead for a
moment but ray Muncy stole the lead with fifth place starter Shawn
Stansell shooting into second as Ron Lewis was spun by Travis Digges
with Lewis pitted with a flat tire. Stansell charged into the first turn
under Muncy as they made contact on the backstretch calling for a
restart with Muncy still in front as Lewis made it back to the track.
Muncy got a flying start on the restart but Stansell was on the move as
he tried the outside to no avail as Mike South Sr. joined the duo. Muncy
kept shaking Stansell's challenges lap after lap as South watch the two
battle. A caution on lap thirteen slowed the field when Drew Case spun.
When the green reappeared Lewis had worked his way to fifth and Stansell
again made his challenges on the leader. Again on lap sixteen Stansell
and Muncy tangled on the backstretch with South hitting Muncy's machine
as they locked together, stopping in the grass and Stansell sent to the
rear and a surprised Ron Lewis found himself in the lead.
Lewis had the lead but fast timer Travis Digges tried Lewis as they
almost crashed at the finish with Lewis taking the win with Digges a
very close second. Rounding out the top five was Jeff Marsh, Shawn
Stansell, and Will Gregory.
The IKO rookie drivers ran a special ten lap event for rookies only
with Noah Wenrick and Tyler Poe in the front row. Wenrick took the lead
as Corey Deuser came on strong to move into second with Poe third and
Jacob McClay fourth. When the checker waved that was the finishing
order.
Fourteen IKO Mini Cups took to the track for their 25 lap feature with
Jacob Wenrick and Matthew Lorance setting the pace with Wenrick taking
the lead and Courtney Hannah into second but Casey Willingham was on the
move as was Cole Williams. Fast timer Bradley Stiffler had taken the
lead but Williams took second and then went after leader Wenrick as
Hannah fell back to fifth. Williams then took the lead as he was looking
for his third feature win. Williams enjoyed the lead as Willingham
slipped into second dropping Stiffler to third. With two laps to go the
caution came out as two cars tangled and bunched up the field. At the
checker Williams and his Rite Way special took the win with Willingham
second followed by Bradley Stifler, Courtney Hannah, and Lorance fifth.
Steve Barnhart and Chris Clark led the wild compacts to the green with
four cars missing it up on turn one calling for a complete restart.
Again the caution came out as one car went off the backstretch hill and
another spun calling for another restart. Again Barnhart held the lead
as Joe Hoelscher moved into second with Dave Sagers into third and again
the caution flew as Barnhart spun on turn two. Joshua Spriggs held the
lead with Hoelscher challenging but Spriggs broke out giving the lead to
Joe Hoelscher with Dave Sagers second and Joseph Mansfield third. Davey
Shaw was on the move as was Ron Sagers with Ron [passing brother Dave
for second as he went after leader Hoelscher. Joe Hoelscher was not
about to give up the lead as he ran Sagers high as they came up on a
slower car with Ron Sagers taking the lead as the white flag came out
and Ron Sagers claimed his seventh feature win of the year in his
Affordable Auto Parts car in what certainly was a wild event. Second was
Joe Hoelscher followed by Davey Shaw, Joseph Mansfield, and Bo
Hoelscher.
